Heritage Day is more than just a day off, it’s a celebration of who we are as South Africans. It’s the smell of smoke as it rises into the spring air, the laughter of friends gathered around the fire and the proud sharing of family recipes passed down through generations, and what better way to finish it all off than with a refreshing iced coffee.
This year, Jacobs Coffee invites you to add a new twist to tradition: coffee-infused braai dishes. By weaving the rich, full-bodied flavour of Jacobs into your marinades, rubs, refreshments, or desserts, you can transform everyday favourites into something unforgettable.
Here are some exciting and creative recipes below that you can try this Heritage Day:
Recipe Spotlight: Coffee-Crusted Steak with Jacobs BBQ Marinade
Ingredients – Marinade
½ cup Jacobs Kronung, brewed
½ cup ketchup
2 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp Dijon mustard
½ tsp smoked paprika
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp chilli powder (optional)
Salt & pepper to taste
Ingredients – Steak Rub
2 ribeye or sirloin steaks
2 Tbsp Jacobs Kronung (Pure Instant granules)
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
1 tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
1 Tbsp olive oil
Method
Prepare the BBQ marinade by simmering all marinade ingredients in a saucepan for 10–15 minutes until slightly thickened.
Mix the rub ingredients in a small bowl. Lightly oil the steaks, then coat evenly with the rub. Allow the meat to rest at room temperature for 20–30 minutes.
Grill the steaks over medium-high heat for 3–4 minutes per side for medium-rare, brushing with the marinade in the final minute of cooking.
Rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Drizzle with extra marinade.
Serving suggestion: Pair with roasted potatoes, grilled vegetables, or a crisp green salad – and of course, end off your afternoon with a refreshing iced coffee.
For those looking for that refreshing sign off, you can try the Jacobs-infused iced coffee.
With recipes like these, Jacobs Coffee isn’t just part of your morning ritual – it’s part of your heritage celebrations, enriching every gathering with flavour, creativity, and connection.
